very slow oil leak when car is parked for a few days, think it may be the oil return line...

don't sway bars require something special when pulling as they are under load or something like that? i was already cursing the car yesterday just lying underneath looking at the line; i can only how cramped it'll be when i'm actually working on it.

I got it from ETOS on a 1999 european spec S4. This is the only piece of software that I have. You may be able to double-check on the online VAG catalogue site.
Here is my search showing all kinds of matches.

I hope this helps. I am going to replace that on mine in about 2k miles. If you can wait until then I will have THE part number for you.

i can definitely wait as I'm in no rush to do the oil. i also have a b5 1.8t that I drive more regularly so I don't put many miles on this one.
thanks again and keep me updated. i hope it's the correct one so you don't find out the hard way (mid-install).
take care!

i've found that if i drive the car every few days or so, the oil doesn't leak out.
i have a b5 A4 which does the brunt of my driving and so the S4 sits in the garage most of the time and is taken out rarely. it seems that the longer that it sat, the more the oil leaked. so now i just take it out more often for errands and such, and haven't seen a drop since. i will definitely change the o-ring at the next oil change though.
have you got around to yours yet?

I just got a B5 A4 grocery-getter as well. I will not drive the S4 any less, but I do not drive it much in the first place -- a lot like you.
When I change the o-ring, you will know, I promise.
I do not think you need to worry about leaking oil when it sits there or not. You will not leak enough to have a problem. If that were the case, you would have already made the repair... I am also guessing that you are leaking just as much driving or not, it is just that when you drive that drip of oil may just get carried away and coats the sway bar, on which dust gets deposited, and so you do not see wetness. But there is no reason why it would leak less when the car is driven.
Do not worry about it. A small leak in the oil return line is the least of your worries with this car!

i guess i didn't think about the drips being dropped somewhere else.
and you're right, it really isn't a lot of oil at all, i just get frustrated having to clean it off of the ground
