VSS is STILL throwing a code!

I'm out of ideas at this point..
The sensor was changed, the reluctor ring that sends the signal to the sensor was changed and still P0501 fault.
The car will not rev above 5K.
What I also do not understand is why the speedometer works - if the VSS is not working how is my speedometer working?

I could be wrong.
The speedo works because the code is for an intermittent issue ( from memory )
You need to track the wire harness from one end to the other until you find the pinch, break, corroded connector or whatever else is causing the code.

That should have no correlation to the code you are showing.
What, if any, work was done prior to this issue? Any other codes which have been cleared and not come back?
Can you rev it higher with the clutch in?
Where are you located?

Mark @ ASP said that the reason I can't rev over 5K is because the VSS P0501 code sets a 5K RPM rev limiter.
I have not tried revving past 5K with the clutch in.
The only other code that was cleared and did not come back was a wheel sensor code - and that was because the car was hit in the rear and fixed.
The car was working 100% until it was hit. It sat at the body shop for two months getting fixed. It was hit in the passenger side rear. NOTHING IN THE FRONT OF THE CAR WAS TOUCHED!! (except the battery was disconnected)
Here is what we've done so far:
Changed the VSS Sensor
Changed the ring sending unit for the VSS sensor
Verified the ground and positive are working (positive is good to the cluster harness - don't know where it is in the ECU harness)
Tried another working cluster
The car displays the speed as 0MPH in vag-com when logging the measuring blocks - but the speedo works.
I'm located in NJ.

We tracked the wire down to the cluster harness and it's good (which is why the speedo always works).
If we clear the code it comes right back the second you move the car.
I have no idea what wire from the cluster harness to the ECU has the VSS signal.

That's how desperate I am.
I've owned this car for 5 months, 2 months into owning it a jerk off drunk driver hit me in my own driveway and now my car is having serious issues.
Again to reiterate - the car was NOT HIT in the front at ALL.
The only electrical thing I've changed was the central locking pump. The airbag module was reset and 2 new airbags (side air bags) were installed.
