OK, no screaming please... But really trying to figure it out wich car to go for? I need some room and still want to have some fun driving. Anyway I've found a 6spd W8 wagon for right around $35K which is not a bad deal however I have not yet driven the car. But not real sure I wanna go with a VW but a 6spd with 270bhp is not bad, I think? Anyway I can't spend $45+K on a 04 S4 so have to look at an older S4 model OR I could look at a new W8 passat 6 speed variant(wagon) OR the A4 3.0 avant on the b6 platform? Anyone driven the other two cars A4 3.0 or the passat 6spd, any thoughts?

i'd bet the W8 is still slower than a stock B5 S4 avant by a agood margin. i know the auto was slower than at stock S4 tip by a decent margin.
passat much bigger inside. rear seat is much bigger. the new B6 A4 avants look real nice and probably handle much better than either given the improved chassis and suspension, but wil liely be teh slowest of the 3.

W8 sedan 6MT is 0-60 in 5.9, not sure for variat tho

at options a year and a half ago. Must say, was pretty impressed with the pickup with 3 adults and a full tank. W8 is still a little but of an untested engine. Drove the A4 Sedan 3.0 while waiting as well. Was quick, but didn't like how the center console bumped my shin. Fairly good pick up, but not that slap in the back sensation you get like the S4. Saw an A4 sedan with the sport package. Wonder if you can get the same suspension, wheels and effects package (looked like a new S!) in the Avant. Unless you're looking for high performacne and tunability, I'd seriously consider the A4 Avant 3.0 or 1.8T with that sports package. All said and done the one you really want but it'll set you back $45-50K used, is the 2001-2002 S6 Wagon with the 4.2 V8. Now that's a people mover with some giddy-up

The S6 is still a slush box. A bit pricy @42K fully op'd out, but very nice and a 6sp to boot. 5cyl turbo with future upgrades a possibility. Having a few teathing problems with heat soak, but they'll figure them out. Great alternative and lots more room in the back seat....sat in the back of a B5 S4 Avant lately?
