Warranty really necessary?
I'm in the market for a (used) S4. I have found a few good deals around the Boston area where I am, but they are not Audi-Certified (private seller/used car place). What I wan't to know, is should I spend the extra 1500-2000$ to get an Audi-Certified S4 and the warranty that comes along with it. Most of the cars I'm looking at are approaching or slightly over 50K, so no warranty transfer from the previous owner.
If the car is checked out by my mechanic, and I verify that it has had the major problems checked out (timing belt changed, etc.), should I be okay purchasing an off-warranty S4? I'm planning on chipping it, so an Audi-Certified warranty would be voided soon afterwards. But at the same time, I'm wary of chipping it and not having a warranty after reading about certain problems people have been having with these cars.
I'm hoping to spend around 25K for the S4. I've had offers for 14-15K for my truck I have now, so anything to reduce the price and get me more money for mods will be good. Any comments will be appreciated, especially from others who have been/are in the same predicament.
