You gonna be at T-Hill for the one day in Oct. and Infineon I'm assuming. I should have my Avant out there!!!! No more Imola as of Sept. 30th!

I love the 01's for their initial bite, which is monsterous. As far as I'm concerned, that's where you want them. Your tires are at their coolest temp during initial braking, so what better time to scrub off the most speed. I can't really compare my braking skills to anyone else, but I've never had any trouble modulating them. (Reminds me of the event where my LF ABS wheel sensor wire worked itself loose and was frayed clean through by that tire. Made turn 1 at Willow Springs reeeeaaaaallly interesting.) I feel they have good range, it's just the 97's have a bit more. Depends on your preference I guess.
And I'll take 5 bottles of Motul over one SRF, thank you very much. (Unless there is a volumetric difference... I've never seen a bottle.) I bleed the system every event, and flush it entirely once a year. Using the aforementioned setup, running Dunlop Supersport Race tires, I haven't faded yet. I am running a 355mm setup up front though, in case you're on 332's.

I want to take the 996 to a PCA event.
The Audi club won't let me track that car because it's a cab without a roll bar.
I've heard the PCA guys are more "hardcore" and not nearly as tolerant of newbies.
I wouldn't know anyone and I'm not sure it would be that much fun. One of my good friends has a 996TT and likes to track. He hasn't tracked the P-car yet and I'm trying to convinve him. If I can, we'll go together.
Maybe we'll do a Waterford Hills event with you and your pop next season.

they are humble and out to learn. Then again, who likes a n00b that thinks he is hot sh*t? <ducking>
Man, that would be awesome if you came out. I'll be at every single SEM PCA event next year probably, so just pick one and let me know.

BTW - you going to PIR and will you make it down to Infineon? Thinking of going to your new chapter's event rather than nationals (the drive's a little shorter...)

1st time off was at archer's corner (end of back straightaway). When I transitioned from hard braking to accelerating, nothing happened because the car had popped from 3rd gear to neutral. I could not recover (rev-match, get in 3rd, engage) quick enough to make the turn so I straightened the wheel and went 2 feet in on some grass/dirt.
2nd time off was in the esses. I was at an open lapping day run by local Audi forum. All day until this session, I was doing fine driving by myself. Before this session, some SCCA race dude asked for a ride and in no time was giving me advice. One gem was that I should enter the esses a touch earlier which resulted in me getting shot out toward the red/white curbing. To compensate, I jerked the wheel left...but oversteered to the point I was heading for a wall. I attempted CPR to recover but didn't keep my foot in it enough and ended up facing the wrong way *on top* of the red/white curbing I initially tried to avoid. The curbs at Waterford are extremely steep. I have not been to another track, but others have said they are steeper than any other track in the midwest. Anyway, hitting the curb with my front wheel cocked a bit resulted in pulling down the fender lip and cutting my tire:

I ended up pushing the fender lip back in with the help of Mr. SCCA which resulted in paint chipping off on fender (see top picture). I still need to get this fixed as winter is right around the corner.
I tossed the tire and bought 2 225/40/18 Dunlop SSRs on e-bay for $180 shipped...now have a nearly brand new spare tire just in case I pull this crap again.

the P-car also.
My wife isn't so interested in me tracking the 996 since she drives it too.
She says it's OK for me to ball up my car but not hers
Maybe I'll bring her minivan and see how that thing handles.
I'd like to make that plan for next year for sure. It would be lots of fun.
