Weird thing happened while trying to downshift into 2nd. Would not engage into 2nd gear.

It has actually happened twice this weekend. The first time was Saturday and then again on Sunday.
So I was slowing down to come off the hwy off ramp, 4th > 3rd and then down to 2nd as I was coming up to the traffic lights expecting to make a right turn. But for some reason I couldn't downshift into 2nd. The shifter just would not engage into 2nd, exactly like when 1st gear is blocked if your rpms are too high. Upshifting from 1st to 2nd is fine, it only happens when downshifting.
More details...
When I downshift from normal speeds, say coming to a red light, it's fine.
But I've noticed that it happens when I'm about to take a corner and I downshift into 2nd at a higher than normal speed (keep in mind it's still not redlining or anything) does it not let me go into 2nd.
Only after staying in neutral until the rpm's come back down can I shift back into 2nd.
Anyone have any ideas?

Definitely rev match if you arent doing that already. I always double de-clutch when getting down into 2nd being that it has always been a little crunchy from previous owners. If you do it right it slides in with glorious satisfaction.
