It was a pretty good weekend... got to spend sometime behind the wheel of my S4. Went to a bbq and met some really good people. Had my first 996 tt.
Went to Gary's bbq on Sat. Met up with Rob + GF (refer), Derek (racked), Paul (Paul@ tantrumworks) in Vacaville and drove up to Gary's new house just north of Sacramento. Got to Gary's place around 1:30 or so.... there were already a few peeps there hanging out. Met a bunch of people from AW and had a really good time talking cars and just getting to know people.
Gary, Thank you very much for having us over.... it was a great time!!!
Anyway, a guy with a 996tt who owns a tuning shop from Sac showed up... really nice guy and was looking to try and get into the Audi market. he brought a 996tt with Garrett's software in it. Turned out he was out taking someone for a ride and Gary and Jon (X-1 racer) were out in Garys car trying to fix some of Gary's tuning problems.
Gary bought his home in a subdivision that still had some new construction going on. There were a good amount of empty streets that were two lanes with nothing really around. So the 996 pulls up next to me at a stop sign and we both kind of roll through it. We look at eachother and hit it. Pull second nice and strong, getting a tire chirp. Reach for third, row through it nicely, get another tire chirp (Dunlop SSR's). Then go for fourth gear, no chirp but done smoothly. Get half way through the rev and shut it down. From the looks of it I pulled a car length maybe two on him. I was VERY suprised at the out come.
I look in my review mirror and see Gary and Jon in Gary's car following us.... it appeared they were yelling and waving their hands out the sunroof and windows. Good times :^)
On the way back we went again.... this time he got the jump on me... I started to gain and was about even with him. Went to grab fourth and missed it :^(. I need to have the linkage looked at as fouth has giving me some problems in the past. Anyway it was a good day.
This is the first time I have ever really done what you could call street racing and probably the last. It was in a flat empty area, so pretty safe but I won't most likely be doing that again.
Again I was very suprised I was able to pull on a modified 996 tt.... and those who don't believe it.. there were two witnesses behind me:^)
