I ended up going with a Werker SLI94R-LI which is the Batteries Plus house brand for luxury cars. They claim they are made in Germany, and its an exact fit for my 01.5 S4. Their database listed the SLI94R-LI as the match for 2002 S4s, and some cheaper/less powerful Werker batteries for 00-01 S4s.

This one retailed for $140, vs $85 and $95 for the lesser models, but I opted for the 94R given higher CCA and reserve ratings. The 94R has the exact dimensions of my old OEM Audi/VW battery.

Dunno -- 2y full replacement and 6y pro-rated warranty seems OK

...which is a tricky fit, but perfect. Also, it's a glass matte construction, so it ought to last well.
