I... I ... I have just picked up my car from my dealer last night, and i have to send her back today again...
Big story.. Morning, I was on my way to school. I suddenly felt some force loosing on the gear shifter. The shifter doesn't go to any gear any more, till i slowly and carefully moved it to the first. I thought there was something wrong with my installation of shortshifter, maybe the linkage screw is loosen. However, once i opened it up, i realized that, it was not my fault, there was nothing wrong with the shifter, but the trans... the trans stucked on first gear. no matter how do i move it shift it, nothing seems work.
Damn, I called the towing truck again, and played the same game again...
The audi Tech asked me "what were you doing? racing?"
I said " No, i don't even drive my babe up to 5k rpm normally, how can i push her to race?".
They seems not trust my at all... damn.... okey, anyway, it is still under warrenty, and they have no excuse to deny it.
finally, i cann't drive my babe during holiday...(I thought i could when i picked it up yesterday...)
Say good luck to me, and happy holiday..

How many miles? I agree with Jyoteen. The short shifter will most likely be blamed for your transmission failure.
A slightly mis-aligned short shifter can and will cause excess stress on the internal transmission components.
If they elect to replace your tranny, look for about a 6K repair work. If they elect to repair your tranny then hope they have the parts. Repair job will be much less but waiting for parts will be horrendous.

looking at the tranny... it was obvious it wasn't a linkage problem. I had the shifter since about 3000mi... failure was at 30k (EXACTLY 30k, too... very weird
... I've added another 17k since then w/ no problems...

There was another local guy around here whose tranny got busted because of the short shifter. While I wouldn't say the short shifter is the cause of all tranny problems. It is a pretty easy thing the dealer can say why the tranny failed.
