Default What chip or flash?

So i picked up this S4 a few weeks ago. Lots of mods already done.
It has a boost gauge and is spiking around 15 lbs in 3rd gear.
Any ways that I can tell what chip or flash it has?
I have been reading that alot of flashes spike around 18 to 20. Should I look at upgrading for more boost?
The S4 already has a miltek cat back, K&N like filter, 710's, APR bi pipe, AWE tranny mount, snub mount, AWE turbo guage and more.
THanks

Default 3 major ways to tell. 1) ask previous owner what he was running. 2) Open up ECU and look at chip

3) Post VAG or ECUx log of run. Use 3K to redline, 3rd gear.

Default I will try to answer with what I know from reading here on AW and other places

"Upgrading" for "more boost" is out of the question. If you are running stock turbos, the KO3s, you are pretty much at what they can do without going bad with 15 psi. What you seem to have is the stage 1 performance program, which is based on the stock hardware, meaning turbos, fueling system and exhaust system.

If it is a GIAC flash, you can download the GIAC switcher program for your laptop and using a VAG-COM cable try to read and see if it works. If it is a GIAC flashed ECU, the software will read successfully and you will know.

I do not know how to check for other flashes.

Some flashes, including my GIAC flash, spikes at 20 sometimes. At first I thought it was a serious problem but then I realized that it is not. If you are maintaining 20 psi at high engine speeds you will most definately kill your KO3 turbos and you do not want that.

Try asking the previous owner and ask somebody who has worked on these cars before to have a look at the car.

Also wait for others's responses. Sounds like you got a nice car.

Ditch that air filter, replace with OEM.

Default There is nothing wrong with a K&N. People just over-oil them.

Follow the directions when cleaning and re-oiling and they're great filters.

Default They do not filter as well as the OEM style filter, they cost more, and they do not give you any

more power.
