I can tell you that it is owhdee, as in "Howdie", with a deep "ow". More like "Owwwwdee".
Au in German is an Ou sound in English, think of "Augsburg". Tt's not Oggsburg, as in Awdee.
Here is a write up from the "Audi Collection"
While 'Audi" is latin, it is a German car and a German rendition of the Latin word. We tend to change everything to our own liking. Take Munich (München) and Cologne (Köln) for example.
Next time you're in ge4rmany, as ANY person where the AWDEE dealer is and they'll look at you like you're speaking in tongues. Then, ask for the Owdie dealership, and you'll get the response "Oh, Owdie".
Audi AG can trace its roots to the year 1899
when August Horsch founded his manufacturing company and built his first
Horsch automobile in 1901. The Audi name
was established in 1910 when Mr. Horsch
was forced out of the company he founded and began a new venture. The name is derived
from Horsch's: "to hear" in German to the
Latin "Audi". Audi soon developed a strong
reputation for technology and high
performance, and in the 1920s, dominated
rallies with its front wheel drive cars. In
1932, Audi merged with DKW, Horsch, and
Wanderer to form the Auto Union. Each of the
four intertwined circles that form the Audi
badge stands for one of these brands. In the post-war years, the company rebuilt itself by
manufacturing the low cost DKW brand for a car hungry market. The Audi brand was reborn in 1965
in a more prosperous Europe because Audi was the most technologically advanced of the four companies
making up the Auto Union. In 1980, Audi stunned the motoring world with the launch of the
turbocharged four wheel drive Audi quattro. The media launch-driving the car up ski slopes in
Switzerland proved that this car had no equal, a point rammed home as the Audi quattro went on to win rallies and races the world over. Audi also became the first and the only car to manufacture 100 percent galvanized mass production cars in 1986. The only other car maker to offer complete
galvanization (to combat rust and corrosion) uses Audi to produce its bodies. In 1993, Audi introduced an all aluminum car at the Frankfurt Auto Show, and in 1997, introduced the Audi A-8, using the advanced aluminum space frame technology from that car. Audi has also been a pioneer in aerodynamic design and advanced styling, which is so apparent in the beautiful Audi A-6 and Audi TT.
