what is the difference between the Quattro IV system and the Subrau's AWD?

i know the Audis quattro is better but is it due to being more mechcanial in nature? the Torsen diff.?

quattro is a *full time* AWD system, splitting torque 50/50 between front and rear then distributing power based on traction needs.

The difference is that the scooby has a VC in-between the front/rear and a VC up front too.

i believe the Subaru system is just like our, 50/50 split except it has a VC as the center diff instead of an Torsen LSD. I also think it has either LSDs or VC's for the axels whereas quattro uses open diffs.
Very few of the AWD systems are 2WD until it needs it... the TT Haldex is like this, but most others are not. BMW biases their 40/60, and i believe it's the opposite for Volvo.
