Default For one ... Scoobie's AWD system is really FWD until traction is needed ...

quattro is a *full time* AWD system, splitting torque 50/50 between front and rear then distributing power based on traction needs.

Default That's to differentiate it from various truck-based 4WD systems which can be switched

from 2WD to 4WD manually by the driver.

Default No, the Scooby's system under normal diriving conditions is 50/50...

The difference is that the scooby has a VC in-between the front/rear and a VC up front too.
Your thinking of Volvos AWD on the V60

Default i'm not sure that is correct...

i believe the Subaru system is just like our, 50/50 split except it has a VC as the center diff instead of an Torsen LSD. I also think it has either LSDs or VC's for the axels whereas quattro uses open diffs.

Very few of the AWD systems are 2WD until it needs it... the TT Haldex is like this, but most others are not. BMW biases their 40/60, and i believe it's the opposite for Volvo.
