What do people think the best 2-3 day track school is? I'm thinking of Skip Barber at Laguna Seca.

Default I am biased towards Jim Russell but basically just pick which track you want, Sears or Laguna

What made you choose them over Skip Barber? I'm just looking for the best school!

Default When we were pitrew for NASA Racer's 12 hour enduro, I think Nogaro...

asked one of the drivers which school is better.

He was an instructor for both schools and said, "If you want to learn to drive, go to Skip Barber. If you want to race, go to Russell."

I think he was implying that Skippy was better than Russell.

Default Cool. That's what I was looking for. My sense from researching them is that you get more track time

in the Russel school than in the Skip Barber school, because there's a lot of classroom time, analysis etc. with Skip Barber.

At first I thought this was a negative, but now that I think of it in the context of what you mentioned perhaps Skip Barber is better for driver improvement. (?)

Hmmmmmmm.....

Default Well I'm sure Pete and I will disagree with you there, we both worked for Russell.

I can't talk about Skippy because I've never been there but a few drivers said they liked Russell better, Robby Unser and just look at guys like Jon Beekhuis ESPN commentator, and Johnny O'Connell Corvette co driver with Ron Fellows and alot of USAC and kart guys. I think it is an accurate statement, if you want to race go with Russell but I don't think he was implying Skippy was better.

Care to elaborate a bit more on why you think it's better. Many famous people have also gone to Skip

Default All I was saying is I think the instructors comment was spot on. I think you get more track

time at Russell and you drive a real racing car in the first course(TRC). It is definately geared towards real racing. Like I said I haven't been to Skippy and used to work for Russell so I don't know alot about Skippy and am biased. What I was trying to say was the comment made by the instructor was not implying anything, it was a very accurate statement. Russell's emphasis is on real racing and Skippy's is on something else, i dunno . . .
