what do you guys think of CF hoods?

I would go with a FI if you don't want to paint or an SDR if you do paint =) My FI trunk is pretty nicely done so I imagine the hood is just as nice. Honestly there is no point to get an oem style carbon hood if you're just going to paint the whole thing. Go with fiberglass if you want to paint. I have a serious thing for carbon so I could never imagine painting over all of it. You will lose some weight but honestly if you're not impressed with the look of carbon you would be better of ditching the stock seats and losing a little more. There's some pics in my poster of my vis semi painted hood if you wanted to take a look. Also you should pin the hood unless you go the sdr route.

before you drive your car. By the all of the thinner evaporates, etc you may save a pound or two at the very most on the hood.
Sure, every pound counts, hell every ounce counts on a race car, but I think if you like the painted look paint it, if you like the CF look keep it. I doubt you could even measure the distane in 0-60, FATS, or whatever your method of measurement was.
Just my $.02

youre right about getting CF and leaving it. its a cool weave. so nice to look at. i think ill just leave it raw carbon fiber see how it looks. paint the sides maybe ...
now for the rs4 grille in the hood, should i make the grille surround black to match the CF color, or blue to match nogaro.

be down the list of things, but most of the guys here have dropped the "cheap" weight already. Remember that there are benefits to handling as well for weight loss.

I have the standard silver trim on my rs4 grille. I think I prefer the flat silver myself over painted for red anyhow. There's also the option of reusing the stock plated surround of which also looks nice. If you want to go vented and paint it totally go sdr. Very nice hood. I havn't seen the weave in person but ask certain funky persons about the weave quality for information on going non painted =) You might be able to go that route. I got a kick *** deal on the vis aleady with painted sides so I couldn't pass it up.
