What do you tell a date when you have to let the turbos cool

Probably not good to come across as an **** car nerd, so just shut it down. The car will survive ;-)
That said, I agree with everyone else... don't boost for the last few minutes of the drive and you'll be fine. Turbos are water cooled, so as long as they aren't glowing hot, they'll be fine. I never idle my car to cool it down unless I was really beating on it.

Coolant shouldn't be heating up at idle... unless you have a problem
But underhood temps will increase if you idle it since you don't have air moving in and out of the engine bay.
