What do you think about "insulation" material under the bonnet...

What do you think about "insulation" material under the bonnet...
...(big black carpet in other side of hood secured by plastic rivets 
) should i remove it or not?
I think it dramatically holds heat under the bonnet, but we don't like heat, do we?
Have you taken your off too or leaved on?

Fire blanket, AFAIK.
In the event of an engine flare up, it's supposed to contain the fire. I've been running without one for 3-4 years; the paint on my hood looks no different than the paint on my doors.

Actually, is it possible that it's a heat sink, and helps dissipate the heat? Thus, if you removed
it, might it actually be counterproductive?
I can't imagine the engineers would have added something that retains engine heat and cuts down on performance / longevity.
