Default What does this DTC Mean : 16502 - Engine coolant temp sensor (G62), Signal too high

I just got the check engine light to go on, and this was the only DTC I could find.

Bad coolant temp sensor, ~$30, I replaced it myself to save the hassle of a visit.

Default Did some more checking... Seemed ok, but should I replace it just in case?

I looked up what to do in the Benlty manual -- it said to check data block 4, look at the 3rd entry which was the coolant temperature, and see if it goes up in an expected way. I did just that, and it went up from 17C to 91C, and seemed to hold that level just fine. I cleared the DTC and I'm going to see if it comes back. But should I replace it just in case? Or perhaps have the dealer look at it?

thanks, reza

Default If it's bad the code will come back, the sensor reads fine most of the time, but sometimes it's way

off, and that throws the dtc.

I've watched it go from 80C to 10C and back to 80C. One day it was 100F out, and the sensor was stuck at -30C, the car wouldn't start, it was flooding itself thinking it was cold out :/ took 15 minutes to get the car started. I had to monitor the sensor and only crank when it was showing a sane value and eventually it fired up. When I got it running I drove to the dealer and bought a sensor, put it in that night. No more dtcs, no more problems.
