Default What does the spring and plunger thing in the old style shifter really do?

Does it just keep it firmer?

I was uninstalling the Strat SS that was in my car when I bought it and it is missing. I don't have those parts.

Should I rig a spring and a home made bullet type plunger?? Or just not worry about it

It's the thing that runs parallel to the words "old style":

Also, the Strat shifter had spacers to move the whole assembly up about 3/16". Why?

Default The spring = reverse = keep the shifter elevated for 1-6 shifts....

the newer style shifter is a more stout piece where the "ball" of the shifter is self contained in a circlip locked plastic cage. No "wings" on the newer style (looks like a plastic "U" on the old one)

Default Yes I did a write up as well, I used nylon washers that I drilled out so that the screws

would thread thru but free spin at the top, this way one doesn't have to worry about goo, or the nuts falling out while your trying to reinstall.

Mucho easier.
