Carrying a lot of speed into the turn at the end of it is what is scary. I'm not convinced that an aftermarket suspension adds THAT much to the speed you can take a given turn if you do the turn smoothly, but there's a huge psychological aspect to it.

IMHO, stock suspension is fine for single or unconnected turns. A properly selected aftermarket suspension will allow more speeds through "the twisties" or turn complexes.
It is also true that you will be forced to learn how to be smooth with your steering and throttle inputs if you had to attack the twisties with stock suspension. To the unintiated, a stiff suspension may instill false confidence and lead to overdriving one's abilities.
