Default Sure you can convert

You need uprights, bearings, and the new control arms.
Best of luck finding some, they aren't at all easy to find.

the one on the right appears to be the heavy duty unit - fits fine on the S4

Default yep they are rare .. and most likely bent if found used ;(

since most junked s4-s had some sort of frontal impact...
the big draw-back is taking the lower ctrl arms off the ALUM upright ..they are an absolute bitch bc of the steel sleeve .

Default Not true.

The part on the right is the original A4 part. Designed as a two piece unit with rubber isolating the two pieces. That big bulge is filled with rubber, which dulls the steering.

The part from Meyle (which you're undoubtedly thinking of) is filled with a much more solid material which in essence makes it like a solid 1 piece unit.

The S4 part shown on the left is by far the best available. It's a solid 1 piece unit and the MOST durable piece. It was available only on the S4 and RS6, until just recently, the new B7A4 uses it also.

The one on the right is no longer used.
They're interchangeable, so fitment isn't an issue.

Default Just found that out the hard way

One side came out like cake (relatively) and the other made me tow the car to a shop and use an air hammer with a fork attached to get it out. PITA.
