The guy, who of course refuses to answer inquiring emails, claims to be selling his 2001 S4 because he has an Audi RS4 on the way.
After spending the past 3-4 years researching the possibilities (both legal and not so legal) of importing a car (I want a Mitsubish Lancer GSR) into the US that is not made for US sale, I absolutely do not believe him. And if he's telling the truth, would someone mind either enlightening me as to how he's pulling this off or how much money the guy won in PowerBall?

he's importing RS4. He says it costs $65K for the car and $15K for the documentation, AMG in SoCal is his importer. I couldn't find the thread due to a trouble in Search.

Well, I would love to see him come to AudiWorld and announce the arrival of his car on US shores. Bringing an unofficial car to the US isn't just a matter of ponying up some dough - just ask Bill Gates! Until the recent changes in legislation concerning the limited importation of cars of "historical significance", even vast quantities of money could not bring his dream car, a Porsche 959, into compliance. AutoWeek has had a few good articles about this process. And if anyone wants to know about the red tape that needs to be cut, ask MotoRex, the company importing Nissan Skyline's into the US (www.skylinegtr.com).

The bottom line: if he by some chance gets an RS4 here, there is no way he is legally licensing and operating it here. He will probably do what I have heard rumors of some people doing - bringing a non US car in and telling the state DMV and their insurance company that it's the US version. I know my insurance carrier thought my Eclipse GSX was simply a GS. They had my VIN and still didn't figure it out. And I made a claim in which they covered a broken REAR axle - a part that (of course) doesn't exist on a FWD GS.
