Re: I need laymans terms though. I don't know crap about speakers, haha.
i dont know how big is your budget but if you have more than $1k try focal or boston i guess... If you like the cold high freq sounds go for MB Quart...

The previous owner had an aftermarket system installed...
The jerks who did the work were butchers. When the car was sold the OEM stuff was stuffed back into it -- expect they left out a bunch of parts. I had to re-wire it all. Still there are problems.
So at this point I really wouldn't mind yanking all of it. I think it would actually save a considerable weight with the head unit, amp and speakers.
Not like I use it that often...

dibs on the front speakers!
I don't use the stereo that much either, but it's nice to have it on with other people in the car. My friends don't appreciate a catless UUC vm3 as much as I do, haha.

Leave it alone for now.
You'll need an amp and speakers for starters. It's best to select an amp that will meet your needs now and down the road, which means a minimum of a 4 channel amp. You're not going to spend less than $600-700 for starters, so if $200 is your present budget, just wait.

Yes, it was a good model.
I think my friend paid $380 or so for them...a few years back. For $200, it's a steal.
Jekyll, you'll want to add a good 4 channel amp as I mentioned below. The extra 2 channels will allow you to drive a sub down the road, with minimal added fuss OR upgrade the rear speakers if you choose...again, with minimal added fuss. If either of you are into bargain hunting, I'm sure you could find some great deals on higher end Alpine, PPI, XTant, or other good brand name used equipment (eBay). The quality stuff should last 10 years or more, and sound great.

That a/d/s amp sounds like a great match for them.
On my friend's system, they did seem a little brighter than they did in the sound room (don't remember the amp they had it wired to). It didn't put me off the way MB Q's do, but it certainly wasn't as mellow as my old a/d/s speakers. At the time I think he had a Phoenix Gold or Alpine amp though. Your combination with the a/d/s amp sounds perfect!
