Default "well" taken care of, doesnt have to be "babied"

most turbo cars dont have to be anally cared for like our cars. I know most volvo owners are as meticulous as us and they dont have near as many turbo failures as us

Default Proper warmup and cooldown. Use of high quality synthetic oil, changed more frequently than ...

the factory recommends, etc.

Default It's a 2.7T thing.

My UrS4 NEVER saw a turbo timer or **** warmup and cooldown and the stock turbo lasted to 115k when I buckled and upgraded to RS2. Hell, and I use dino 15W40 oil.

I beat the **** out of the Evo and have never heard of a turbo going on that motor either.

Crappy design by Audi, period. Too much heat.

Default Yeah, but C. O. Guy2 doesn't get that.

He's convinced that we are all idiots who don't know how to take care of our cars and his turbos will last forever.

Normally, I wouldn't wish turbo failure on anyone, but I'd like to see it happen to him just to prove him wrong.

Default shoe horn design. sucky oil lines, and port on the earlier ones.

bad heat transfer properties...the thing that kills me is the 2.7T COULD have been SUCH a killer engine (ala the RS4 or better)...but audi just messed up...and its a nice engine that always comes close to being GREAT, but in the end its just another fun but problmeatic engine...

Default Here goes my routine if you really care to know:

1. Warm up oil to at least 190-200º prior to building boost beyond 0 psi.

2. Idle car to cool down oil to at least below 215º prior to shutting down.

3. Change oil every ~5k or so....depending on the oil....appears as though Mobil 1 is lasting upwards of 8-10k.

4. K03's don't do well under high boost levels (18+ psi) when nearing redline...they will overspin.

....all this, and there is still a good chance your K03's will fail.

CO guy, please consider yourself LUCKY, not smarter, because your turbos haven't failed.

Default i have NEVAR

considered myself smarter than anyone--you and I share the same routine except I change my oil every 3 k. I dont believe in dragracin however if the occasional road race comes along......
