What are my chances against a new M3? Assuming equal launching capabilities
All I have is an APR chip, nothing else.
Over the past couple of weeks some punk in my neighborhood with a new M3 has been "posturing" at me. Last night I'm in the left turn lane, a couple of car lengths back from the line to set off the turn arrow, and he pulls up in the straight lane even with me, no cars in front of him or me, and guns it when the light turns. I'm in the left lane so he knows I'm not able to do anything.
I have a feeling my ego is about to get me into a tangle with this guy.........real soon.

I don't think so, but the M3's second gear is taller than the S4's...
...so it will gain bigtime on the S4 for a brief bit when the S4 stops accelerating to shift to 3rd...did I get that right? Although once you get toward the top of 3rd gear, the M3 will probably start pulling bigtime again, esp. as you shift 3-4 before the M3 has to. Having only seen like 3-4 E46 M3's in Houston to date, I have no personal experience.

after racing a buddy with an e46 M..
i have apr, forge, borla, short shifter,.. and yeah the shifter does help.. we both pulled up to a light.. i launched at 3K rpm's .. he had very slight wheel spin .. we were pretty much neck to neck all the way to 120 thats when we ran out of road... i was surprised as hell .. cause i thought he was going to hand me my ***.. but i was very happy.. just thinking that it was a fluke.. we tried it again and pretty much the same result but this time we only went upto.. 100.. but you gots to know how to row 
.. otherwise any decent driver in an M will rape you!.. they are very sweet and fast cars.. but just lack a bit of torque for my taste..

You have a good chance. It is all about you being the SMARTER driver.....
Try to make him botch his launch. Find a place that has a really ****ty launch pad. Lots of cracks in the road, sand/gravel/grit on the road, wet, ect.....
Also, try to get him to spin his tires. Intimidate him and make him think he has to launch harder than he really does. If he spins the tires, you will blow his doors off.
DON'T BLOW A SHIFT!!! It is VERY important that you shift perfectly because your gonna pull half a car or so if you both have perfect launches. But once he hits 3rd, he is gonna make it up. You do have a chance, you just have to be smart about it.
