Default What should I do to get my car ready for the track?

I'm going to Limerock this summer.... all of my mods are in my sig and I'm gonna get slotted rotors and track pads, is there anything else I should do to my car before I bring it out there?

Default This is what (EXPERIENCED) ppl told me -> MUCH MORE

First off, don't let some of the AW track junkies drive you nuts, I highly valued TRM's recommendations and suggestions....and yes, I did my first track event last week....so its all fresh in mind.....still walking around with the one mile SMILE...

I would suggest replacing your brake fluid with Motul 600, that's about $40, something you can do yourself, highly recommend brakebleeders as well, making the brake fluid replacement a piece of cake and a one person job.

You also need to have the car inspected, tech inspection that is, I'd recommend to have this done prior to the event, so you can fix/repair any problems.

One of hte questions I had, was the brake pads, if you have less than 50% left, it might be wise to get some replacement pads, I personally would recommend the stock ones, unless you plan on tracking your car more often, STFA is my response than.

Change your oil as close to the event as possible, runnign on fresh oil should warrant a good performing engine.

Helmet, get a SA2000 rating, should run you about $150 brand new. Inspect your tires, do you have plenty of thread left.....

You can do the Stainless Steel brake lines, its NOT a NEED TO HAVE, more a NICE to HAVE.

Get through Amazon, the book Speed Secrets, through Amazon, another TRM recommendation...

Do you have a boost gauge, you might want to get one of those as well, just for kicks and giggles.

I guess that's it for now..

Default Some additional info about getting ready for..and participating in track events in your Audi

I wrote this about 4 years ago..its still applies. Click on link below.

My suggestions mirror those stated below...change pads (front AND rear) to a more aggressive compound...change brake fluid (Motul 600)...bring extra pads..even if they are stock ones. Change brake lines only if you plan to do a lot of these events..overkill if you are just trying this the first time. Make sure you have enough tread on your tires...DO NOT bring brand new tires to the event..you MAY ruin them if you inflate your tires incorrectly.

Most importantly, have fun...oh, and by the way, you are now hooked...(hook, line, AND sinker)

Link to article about driving on track

Default If it is your first time at the track, the car will be fine as is.

The new rotors and pads you are getting will be great by your second or third event. You might also want to run the chip in stock mode for the first event or two - you need to concentrate on turning and getting ready for turning, not blasting down the main straight (even though it is a damn fun thing to do).

Default skip the slotted rotors, IMO. Run track pads in the stock brakes for 2-3 events

until you're outbraking what you have. Then, upgrade to a BBK.
