Default What size tires should I get for a 18 x 8.5" wheel?

And could someone teach me how to compute this so in the future I don't need to ask?

Thanks,
Jacob

Default 225/40, 235/40, or 255/35

225/40 is what tirerack recommends. The other two will most likely rub if you don't roll the front fenders.

Default But if I do roll the fenders then a wider tire is better?

What do the numbers mean?

Default Tire size numbers mean this ---->

<ul><li><a href="http://www.tirerack.com/a.jsp?a=AR4&amp;url=%2Ftires%2Ftiretech%2Ftechpage .jsp%3Ftechid%3D46">tire size decoder</a></li></ul>

Default great info, and "better" depends on tire compound

My 235/40-18 AVS tires had much better traction than the 225/45-17 potenzas on my stock wheels. My current 225/40-18 R compound dunlop ssr's have much more traction than the AVS's.

I might try 255/35-18 michelins the next time. If I could get more of the same dunlops I would.

A wider tire is better for dry traction. Narrower better for wet and snow

Default I like the 255's as they don't look as stretched as some tires on 8.5" rims

255/35/18 Pirelli Pzero Nero M+S on right (current tires)

Default what's the offset of your wheels?

My LMs seem to stick out pretty far with a 30mm offset. I'm afraid 255's might get too close to the rear fender.
