What would cause a MAP sensor to throw a code?

Its an intermittent code which means that it happened at least once but isn't continuously happening.
My suggestion would be to clear the code and see if it comes back. If it does, you most likely have a faulty MAP sensor. If not, it was probably just a fluke thing.

How often do you see this? Have you checked the VAG block 115 (basically a translation of the boost sensor reading from the analog voltage signal)?
