What would cause a throw out bearing to go bad 2 or 3 times in 30k miles?

RWD wheels on a FWD car - ie, extreme offset problem
actually, I'm not so sure that is true - it would put the wheels out much further than they are intended, but how different would that be from the load on a RWD car to start? Maybe their bearings are different?
Anyway, I'm just arguing with myself.

K, thanks for posting. Problem is on my car.....Car won't go into gear...second time in under 15K..
Its a huge annoyance....and I'm not sure why it is going through throw out bearings in such a short period of time.

Seriously though, that sucks Pete :-( You just got your car back too....
What clutch do you have again? And where was the TB bearing from? If I had to guess I would say installer error (assuming the same place installed both) or maybe you're LWFW? I really don't know much about clutches but they don't seem overly complicated. Are you sure it's the Throwout bearing on not the slave cylinder or PP?

It sucks big donkey nuts...I was prepping for an IC test this weekend too...F'n AYE!!
I'm not 100% sure it is the TOB. I think it is because the clutch pedal feels fine which in my experience would rule out a bad PP or clutch slave....plus there was no brake fluid dripping anywhere...or burning smell.
I'm not sure if the LWFW would cause it....perhaps, and its something I've thought of too. But I haven't heard of others with this problem.
As for what TOB I used....both were factory spec units purchased from the local Audi Dealer. The first was installed at a local performance shop. This last one that just **** the bed on me was installed BY THE DEALER TECH when the tranny was rebuilt.
Beats me...but I don't think its installer error. Those things are pretty stupid easy easy to install...how do you **** that up....seriously. And I don't think you "can" install it incorrectly without having other issues right off the bat post-install.

Yea that's what I was thinking (about the installer error)
Not too many ways to fvck it up. Maybe an improperly balanced FW would mess it up?
I'm free friday and Saturday if you wanted to do the tests on my car. Stock (if tony has any) vs. RS4 vs. ER IC's :-) I'm sure you'd rather have them installed on your car... but if you still wanted to do the testing this weekend I'd be willing to come down and donate my car for the day.
