To keep the same numbers of course .. 0 to 60, the 3650 pounds of fat, all wheel drive, and quarter-mile. And if possible, keep it a 6 cylinder in this hypothetical equation.

For curiosity because of the fact that the S4 looks bad on paper but is definitely not bad. Thanks.

Default depends what kind of NA...for example the acura cars

TL type S circa 2001-2 have decent peak power (think around 260hp) and ran mid to high 6's in the 0-60, while nissan engiens of similar peak hp ran flat 6's or high 5's (240hp maxima ran high 5.9 in a mag)...those cars are all a tiny bit lighter than an S i think....

so i'd say, for a relatively torquey(good midrange, peak torque not all teh way up top) NA V6...305+hp.

drag calculators will give you a better estimate.

Default Too high, the B6 S4 is 300 lbs. heavier with 340hp and will spank a B5 S4...

If he wants to move a 3600 lb. S4 with a normally aspirated V6, I'm going to say something along the lines of 280hp-287hp/270-273 lb-ft 3.5L V6 in the G35/350Z would work fine.

Default True, i was comparing to the M5's 394hp and its heavy self. The Z numbers would not be enough to

power our cars and achieve the same performance numbers we have. Me and my friend who has a track Z are pretty even performance wise. So if you add hundreds of pounds and all-wheel drive to that, i dont think it will be enough

Default but thats also a V8 with more torque down low than most NA V6's...

FWIW, the G35 coupe is only about as fast as a 330 (though the Z is faster than a stock S4)...it only loses 7 hp to teh Z and is a little heavier....
so i'd say that you'd need at least 300hp, given teh S4's extra heft over the G35 coupe and AWD drivetrain loss (i'm sure AWD hurts a little in teh 1/4 and helps in the 0-60)

Default Quick calculation: 305hp 300tq, must be geared better too.

The extra HP/TQ is compensating for the ample plateau of torque/hp the OE turbo provides. The gearing has to keep the more potent motor in it's power peak. The hp/torque peak will depend on valve lift/timing and displacement.

If everything were kept the same on a 2.8L, it'd have to be a 4.5l or so to make the above numbers. Add some compression, more aggressive cam, timing and rev limit, it could be done with 4.0 with little problem.

YMMV!!
