What would prevent the shifter from going into 1st and 2nd gear?

What would prevent the shifter from going into 1st and 2nd gear?
Reverse, 3, 4, 5, and 6 work fine. I've got a UUC shortshifter that I installed at around 1000 miles (now at 38k). I took the car in for a scheduled maintenance and it was shifting smoothly. When I went to pick it up, it wouldn't engage first or second.
Does this sound like a linkage problem?
If it is, what could've caused it?

Nope, never had a short shifter........yes, the covered it. At first they tried to say
I had a SS because I have that high HP MOMO shift ****...LOL. Seriously though, mine did exactly what yours is doing when I accidently had the shifter slide towards 2nd gear, instead of 4th when downshifting from 5th gear.

more important to think of....why would it be doing this after the maintenance!!!!
If i were in your position i would be fighting back every urge to go into the dealer and bust some skulls trying to find out who the **** beat on your tranny. thats not right at all man. best of luck to you, it sounds like its gonna be a rebuilt tranny.

Not sure if you've gotten any further on this but I'm having similar issue with my UUC SS. I have to give the stick a minor slap to the left to get to the gates that let me find 1 and 2 and have to be very careful not to find R instead! Please let me know what you learn and I'll do likewise although mine is just an annoyance for now.
