Default 2100-2200 to pull, rebuild, and reinstall tranny. This was an estimate

after my clutch was installed and I was BSing with the service manager about the Stasis trannies.... he started talking about how they pulled a couple S4 trannies and rebuilt them...

Default used tranny is around $2k - it took me about 13 hours to R&R

Default Are you going to rebuild your tranny?

I think you should. Very educational project. You could even see if you can turn it in to a close ratio box with stronger syncros. Then when you've done it I can just copy you. :-p

Ha! I'd like to rebuild it, just don't know what tools I need to invest in for the job

Default I doubt it would require that much...

Probably mostly measuring tools to figure the play as parts go back together. Not too expensive stuff and probably the sorts of tools which will have general application and you will want to keep around.

I'd be more concerned about the cost of specialised gears and syncro rings. To do it right and make it worth doing, you really need to have the goal of beefing up the transmission -- especially considering the way you drive! :-p

If it were me, then I'd also want to turn it in to a close-ratio box with a higher first. But maybe that wouldn't be what you wanted as I would think it would be lousy for drag racing.

The other alternative would be to just go in there and to replace the one or two bent forks and button it back up again. That would be a very minimalist way of doing it. I have no idea how much disassembly you need to do to be able to replace those parts.
