after my clutch was installed and I was BSing with the service manager about the Stasis trannies.... he started talking about how they pulled a couple S4 trannies and rebuilt them...

I think you should. Very educational project. You could even see if you can turn it in to a close ratio box with stronger syncros. Then when you've done it I can just copy you. :-p

Probably mostly measuring tools to figure the play as parts go back together. Not too expensive stuff and probably the sorts of tools which will have general application and you will want to keep around.
I'd be more concerned about the cost of specialised gears and syncro rings. To do it right and make it worth doing, you really need to have the goal of beefing up the transmission -- especially considering the way you drive! :-p
If it were me, then I'd also want to turn it in to a close-ratio box with a higher first. But maybe that wouldn't be what you wanted as I would think it would be lousy for drag racing.
The other alternative would be to just go in there and to replace the one or two bent forks and button it back up again. That would be a very minimalist way of doing it. I have no idea how much disassembly you need to do to be able to replace those parts.
