Whats the deal with the RS6 upgrade
I've been slowly prepping the car for switch to K04s, but the more I think about it, the more I want to do the RS6 turbos. I've been looking around and doing some research and it sounds like you can get huge gains without doing all the scary and expensive engine rebuilding (rods and so on).
Is this correct or is rebuilding required for any gains exceeding the more common RS4 upgrade? What other difficulties, if any, are there compared with the RS4 (egt delete required, for instance).
I don't want to tackle a engine build right now, but I would like to leave that option open in the future, that's why the RS6 option is more appealing.

Needs forged rods to get maximum out of RS6s. There are those running them with stock bottem end, but you must detune. Valves and springs are recommended to allow for high reving and therefore getting the most out of them. Going with 2.8 heads fit well into the package as well. (He high reving helps our *little* 2.7 push them like a larger engine would.) Better fueling is needed than a K04 tune, but it is only marginally more expensive than a k04 fueling kit.
You will need to weld a flange into the downpipes, and probabaly want some good highflow ones. If you would do it real budgety you could attempt an SSAC and say **** it if you dont like it.
I don't believe that EGT deletes are required, I hope they are not.
You would need a better clutch than a RS4 clutch.

Gotcha. Flanges are now big deal as DPs will be more or less disconnected anyway for the pull - clutch is also on the list already.
Will put valves and springs, rods and heads on td list for the future. Egt delete is simply programming the ECU to write a static reading for those pesky little SOBs, right?

Yeah, but if your fueling isn't exactly perfect. Or your conditions vary from the norm by a significant amount. The computer won't know to enrich the fuel/air ratio and the exhaust temps can go through the roof. EGTs are a pain, but worthwhile in my opinion as they are a safeguard.

For RS6 turbo's all you really need is a better clutch. Rods would be good if you want to go for a race gas tune. On a stock bottom end you can push a reasonable psi on these turbos on pump gas while being faster than a K04 car. New heads aren't necessary. New heads is really only necessary for GT's. You will want to go for #60 injectors for these turbos since they will max out green giants.
The egt delete is only so you don't have to deal with them going out and the problems that causes. No performance gain, just a more simple car. You do loose a security blanket that they provide.

These squared-off wheelarches were originally destined for the RS4? They still suck on the RS6......
