Default Well, my manual said 105k to change but 8+ years on an original belt is asking for trouble.

Just do it. I changed mine at 80k since the water pump and thermostat are schedule at that time. My mechanic said I had probably 5k more miles until the belt snapped. You could see part of it already starting to come apart.

Default Yes, but the sticker under your hood says, "Change toothed belt @ 75,000!"

I just bought an A4 (2.8) with 162k on it with a blown TB. 15 or so teeth shredded off.

Default If you can't afford to drop $1k on the car, you shouldn't have a B5 S4. I'm saying that with all

seriousness.

just had mine changed @ 74k...and my funds are tight too...i dont know your financial situation but i paid 850 for the full timing belt kit installed at KMD tuning...your gonna be kicking yourself in the *** if the belt breaks...on a sidenote, many break without premature signs of failure

Default titcr

Over $6K in a 1 1/2 ownership, only one real upgrade.

Default Re: I'm sitting at 84k on the original Timing Belt...

My 81 4000 has 249K and I don't think the belt has been changed. The car had 135K when I bought it years ago. But, it is a non- interference engine and if it breaks I'll have it towed home and fix it. Local driving only is required. VW 4 cyl engine.
