Default In what way is it loose?

Sure it isn't the wheel bearing or control arms or tie rod end?

Or if they are aftermarket wheels, did you remember to install the hub centering ring?

Default Bad wheel bearing maybe?

If the wheel is moving around it may be the wheel bearing. If so check your hub nut to see if it is loose.

Default Re: In what way is it loose?

found the problem. turned out to be rust in the rotor as well as the after market bolts that sat in the box since last oct. till today. i was able to tighten to 89 ft-lb but it wasn't holding the wheel against the hub for some reason, very strange, maybe torque wrench needs recalibrating. some cleaning of the bolts and rotor did the trick. it was weird the last 5 bolts left all had too much rust. i thought i had broken something.
thanks for all the help

We had this happen on our 01 S4. spacer plates and lug bolts too long with spacers removed. What a mess to get straightened out. Les Schwab created. Discount sorted out. guess who gets our next tire dollars?
