Default When it comes to 1/4 mile times:

What makes a car have a fast time but a low MPH?

What makes a car have a slower time but a higher MPH?

What does it tell you about the car?

Default Fast time = good launch, rapid shifts. Fast trap = big HP.

In one case, I would consistently beat a friend's turbo'd Golf to the 1/4 mile line, but he was trapping almost 10 mph higher (and flying past me). I got off the line like the magic that AWD is while he had to concentrate on keeping his front wheels from spinning the whole way. From a roll he'd eat me alive.

Default When using a GTech (or similar) will a clutch-saving roll off the line still give a trap that's

comparable to someone who pulled off a 5k clutch dump and 1.8 60'?

I'm trapping about 109 mph this way (somewhat casual shifts too) and I was wondering how much higher this could be if I actually tried to launch the car.

Default You won't gain much. Your speed isn't increasing very rapidly by the time you cross the line.

So a gain of maybe .2 sec won't get you much more trap.

Default So trap speed, regardless of launch vs gentle roll, is one of the best indicators of power/weight?

Even better than 3rd gear FATS?

Default It is a good indicator, but not as good as FATS.

Trap speed will still depend a bit on launch, but since there is no launch to worry about with FATS, there is one variable taken out that depends a lot on the driver.

I think FATS is too small of a range though dont you think?
