Default When does the oil cooler kicks in or what triggers it?

I was driving around traffic in NYC this afternoon around 630pm, gauge temp read 90degree(but felt cooler than 90 degrees). I was driving normally, didnt really get any boost(because you cant!!).. didnt even get pass 3k on the tach, AC off and on top of that Im on stock chip. My oil temp went over 230 degrees. I know its normal operating temp but its usually higher for me. I usually hovers around 200 degrees or sometimes less. Im just curious how I can somehow get these temp to go down on stop and go traffic. How do I know if the afterrun coolant pumps comes on as well?

TIA

Default The factory oilcooler is a waterblock between the block and oil filter

works whenever the engine is running. External oil coolers typically have a themostat that opens up around 180f.

You're not gonna get much airflow over the cooler if you are in stop and go traffic

Default Thought he was talking of an aftermarket

in which case he could put it in front of his radiator and have an aftermarket fan for more air flow.

I've had oil temps go up to almost 250 in stop n go traffic. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Once you get moving again, the temps should drop.
