Default I put mine in just any ol way, and considering my bulbs were around 5 years old,

I do not see a huge difference. The color is better, but I believe I may have put them in "wrong".

I'll check tonight and put them in with the filament down and repost tomorrow.

Default put the metal bar down. If you look in the housing, it apprears that the cutout on the bottom is

made to fit it. Just replaced my bulb in the last week, tried different ways. Bottom is the best.

Default the bulb has a small notch in it.. the notch only allows one orientation

Actually, you can turn it the wrong way but the small alignment notch in the housing will raise that side of the bulb so it won't sit flush if you don't have it turned the right way.
