Default When replacing control arms: Anyone ever had the steel sleeves pop out of the bottom of the steering

knuckle?

Both steel sleeves popped out of the bottom of my aluminum steering knuckle when removing the lower control arms from the knuckle. I'm very concerned.

Phew, that's good to hear. Any tips for getting it off the ball joint post?

Default I had to have my mechanic remove the lower arms, I don't

know how he did it, but I had to pound one of the sleeves back into the upright.

One tip - press the sleeves back in BEFORE installing the arms, don't use the arms to force the sleeves down.

Default Cut the aluminium control arm away from the ball joint.

You might need to do this before you are able to get the control link off the hub because of clearance. Then use a press to press the sleeve off.

Be careful with the sleeve because it is not possible to get this from Audi. You'll either need to custom machine it or buy a complete new aluminium hub carrier.

Ya, I ended up cutting the ball apart on the front-most LCA. Scared the hell out of me.

That's the only way to get the forward lower control arm off the hub.
