Re: Where is a good place to splice in my radar detector?
I ran my power/ground lead down the left A-pillar (pillar with your drivers side mirror on it) and connected it directly into the fuse box. If my memory serves me correctly, I think there was an opne/blank fuse hole that is powered by the ignition (at least I believe there was with my '00 S4). You can get a fuse insert connector at a good autoparts store for about $5 that you crimp onto the end of the power lead and you can also pick up the ground at one of the fuse box frame mounting bolts. (10mm if I remember correctly). The fuse insert will work in any fuse slot that is ignition activated through, as it looks like a fuse with a pigyback slot for another fuse that is for your accessory. Their is a single powere lead with a fast crimp sleeve on it so you can just insert your power line and crimp it, plug in teh fuse adaptor, and you're ready to go!
Much better for your electrical system, as you are not tapping into an existin line and you are also fusing your radar detector with it's own fuse, which can be anything from a 1amp up, but the smaller the better.
Hope this helps! Also, you can get this adaptor at Pep Boys stores in their fuse section.
