Well, here is a good example of why you sould take your racing to the track. I know, you're young and invincible, and it'll never happen to you. I'm pretty much sure that this is what this guy used to say also. Not only is he dead, but this could have been avoided.

Oh well, there will be many more just like it, hopefully no one that any of us know.<ul><li><a href="http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2001/10/22/MN195024.DTL">Street race</a></li></ul>

Default Very Tragic. But. This is the problem with young kids....

getting hold of cars that they can't handle. Most kids that age are still learning how to drive and should not be driving around in anything worth more than $1000 unless they are exceptionally responsible. We've all been there. At that age you think you're invincible and you don't think of consequences. That's a bad combination.

Racing is not really a problem if everyone knows the limits of their cars and only goes as fast as they can handle. That way everyone can have fun within reason.

I think using caution and reason is the best way to avoid this kind of situation. After all, you can still get killed on the highway going 50MPH if carelessness and stupidity get the better of you.

Default Price of the car is not the problem. Power of the car is more of an issue.

Some kids died here in a Geo Prism.....no power what so ever....but they crashed and the authorities said the car was racing. It's sad and driving fast on public roads is dangerous. We all should take car in how fast we operate our cars when on public roads.

Default Drag race? On an interstate? At over 100mph? Good job clueless reporter.

Sloppy reporting by clueless reporters as usual.

This is a street race, but no drag race for sure.

Most of us are well aware of the dangers of racing on a freeway, in traffic, in speeds of excess of 90mph.

Enough with the "crying wolf" already. Those of us who are smart enough to learn from this "example" already know better.

The young and foolish whom you are trying to reach by posting this will no doubt ignore it anyway.

Not a flame, just telling it like it is.

Default I just don't get it. Racetrack = Racing. Why is that hard?

Why would you want to race on the street anyway, where you constantly run the chance of getting busted, or being involved in an accident that harms others NOT involved in the race? Seems no more responsible to me than getting behind the wheel when you've been drinking. That article is sad. All those kids were so young.

Default Kids and cars with more than 140hp scare me...

...Lord knows I did enough stupid stuff in a 106hp Celica. I'm absolutely amazed some of my friends with 225hp Mustangs and Camaros didn't kill themselves.

Default True. I had a 180hp Beretta GTZ when I was 16. I did things that there's

no way in hell I would consider now, let alone do. I'm happy the Lord has spared me from any bad happenings....but like you said, people do bad things in almost any car. It's a good thing that the insurance company would let me get a mustang GT on the policy, I might have gotten into something. Also, a good thing my father taught me how to be an aware driver and to use my head when behind the wheel.
