I under stand it in the same class, but for instance, you always see people comparing it to the M3, when the M3 is typically 10k+ more. IF you spent equal amount on the cars the S4 would walk all over it (assuming the difference was spent on mods). Is there something I am missing or do I just have a really bad perspective on pricing?

Price does not always dictate performance these days. Look at the SRT-4.

The last M3 was in the same price range as a B5 S4. The new M3 is in the same price range as the new S4. There has long been an S4/M3 rivalry.

... they feel like tin cans compared to an Audi, or any decent German car for that matter.

I've had 6 Subies and 2 Eclipses and I loved 'em dearly, but they are not in the same league.

I would LOVE an STi to play with, but as my everyday driver, no way.
