Default Wierd: No brake light in instrument cluster

I purchased my 2000 S4 from the origional owner and I have been anoyed lately by trying to drive off with the e-brake still engaged. There isnt a light on the dash telling me its on. I chalked it up to poor planning on Audis part. I just saw a pic of someone elses dash, and they have a brake light. Any ideas on why mine doesnt work?

Default It's usually the brake pad sensor that you are probably thinking that shows up on the upper part of

screen.

Default Functions via a switch on the underside of the brake lever

if you remove all the interior trim, you can access the switch and see if it's stuck. You should also be able to tell if the display is working properly, that indicator light should illuminate when you turn on the ignition (all the warning lights come on.... then turn off)

If it's not, its a problem with the dash display. You'd need to replace the whole display (pricey last I checked)

Default does it light up with the key in first position (car not running)?

If so, then it's the switch in the handbrake.

If not, then I guess it's the cluster (or some bulb in the cluster).

If its the cluster that needs replacing, I will just live without it. Thanks for the info!
