Hey guys,
I have noticed that there is a wierd almost buzzing sound (with a little bit of servo) coming out of my dash in the mornings on my way to work. Almost sounds like a really quite computer fan (like say a PS2).
At first I thought is was the dash fans -- so I turned em off. Still there. Ok, maybe its the CD player (the servo) -- turned it off. Still there. Oddly. After driving for say about 5 minutes it becomes intermittant and then goes away altogether. It also seems to only happen on a cold car -- like after its been sitting overnight. (BTW, its not truly cold -- I live in L.A.)
Anyway, is this some normal servo or fan noise?? And any ideas what it is?? I don't want to take it in quite yet for dealer service. My mom is one of those types that takes her car in under warranty all the time for every little noise, rattle, etc. Am I becoming one "those" peope. [

the ac fan in the dash, as with a couple other things it smoothed it'self out as the car broke in and got used to doin it a lot.
if your car isn't new, then have audi check it out.
otherwise should be coolinthagang!

if you put your hand over the three slits in the dash just over the climate controls, the sound will stop
I believe it's a fan that circulates air over/across the internal temp sensor (or something to that effect)

it sounds EXACTLY like what i had -- like a paper being crumpled very softly. it was especially audible after a cold start. usually i couldn't hear it with the radio on. but with the radio on low or off, it was very irritating.
Taner H. is right -- there is a little fan above the climate control unit. this fan sucks in air for temp reading. this little fan sometimes needs to be lubricated or replaced (in my case). next time you hear that sound, cover those those slits w/ a finger and see if it happens. if so, make an appointment w/ your dealer.
Note: i had the noise from day 1, so i think some fans just leave the factory in bad shape...

i'm selling it because i already have a z06 for the track so there really is no need for the S4. i don't like to hot rod around on the street so i'm pretty much just wasting money keeping it around.

For Sale: 2002 S4 Silver/Black 6,500mi
