Default Wiper woes

My windshield wipers really don't wipe, they kinda hop along the windshield. Is there anything that I can do to help them work better? I just replaced the blades, should I have gotten a certain type of replacement blade?

Thanks

Default Depends. How old are the wiper frames?

The "springiness" of the frames deteriorates over time. Replacing only the blade inserts works a few times, but eventually you need to replace the whole frame. I doubt that the whole arm would need replacement (there is another spring there that keeps tension on the windshield). Also, try using Rain-X.

My wipers chattered even with new inserts until I changed the entire frame.

Default The "wing" is only on the OEM wipers. You can get it from Stealership or

ECS tuning. I have silblades without the wing and they work fine.

I've been told using a clay-bar on the windshield can help...I've never tried, though.

Yes, it does. I acutally polish mine, also. It helps quite a bit.

Default I just installed these ultimate wiper blades

I will see how it goes...so far I like the way they are build, great finish and so easy to install. If you order from the web site use promo code='SECRETDEAL' for 25% off. For my 01' S4 I used 21" for both sides.

http://ultimatewiperblade.com/</a

Default Sometimes you can "adjust" the arm........

Watch the blade is it sweeps. If it doesn't "flip" when it changes direction then you can try carefully bending(twisting) the arm so that the blade leans more. It's kind of hard to explain, but you want the blade to "flip" so that it's not plowing along the windshield. I did this on my daughter's Jetta after new blades failed to eliminate the chatter. Worked like a charm.
