Woke up to a shattered front, driver's side window this morning. I'm thinking it's an easy DIY fix?

Default Woke up to a shattered front, driver's side window this morning. I'm thinking it's an easy DIY fix?

Whole window is shattered, but luckily the tint is holding everything solid, so I didn't freeze on my way to work. Yay for tint!! I've taken the door apart several times already, so getting to the window shouldn't be too hard. Anyone ever replace a door window? I'm all ears for tips if there are some tricky parts. A search really didn't turn anything up. Thanks.

Default yea it's a pain in the ***. do you not have glass coverage? insurance will cover it

just make sure you bring the vehicle to a respected shop. there are alot of glass companies out there and most are hacks. even the dealer will use a place that offers them a better price over quality work. where do you live?

Default Don't have glass coverage. Damn I was thinking it was as simple as swapping out new glass

with a few screws holding it into the base. Seems that all weather proofing stuff is already set around the door. I'm in Portland, and have a place that I have used before that's good and cheap.

Default Yep, I can close it like normal. Only one small hole where the impact was. Can't tell if it was a

rock, BB, or stray.

Default Any idea wtf shattered your window?

i cant imagine it would be very hard to throw a new piece of glass in there...you should def try to DIY. Like you said, it doesnt seem like too much is in the way once the door panel is removed

Default Yes, it is a DIY

I think it should take less than an hour. It envolves removing half a dozen screws and a place to do it in. See the link for how to remove and replace the glass via the window regulator replacement tech article.

You should be able to find the glass used for around $50 to $100 depending on how hard you look.

good luck<ul><li><a href="https://www.audiworld.com/tech/int.html">Window Regulator Replacement</a></li></ul>

Default give them a call but if you diy and the glass is not adjusted correctly the car will sense

tension and roll the window back down. i would not recommend taken the whole assembly apart including regulator thats more work than needed bring it to your shop and be done with it.

No idea if it was a rock, BB, or other. Just a small pinhole.
