Default I run E100. I have two extra injectors on the bipipe. On WOT the IAT goes down to

some 30oC less than ambient temperature, almost freezing.

Here in Brazil, some older cars with carburetors that run on E100 needed to have manifold heaters to not freeze under WOT.

They could be running a straight methanol setup.

How much cooler it is? What are you referring to, heating value?

Default To add onto this, I would say E85 is less likely to experience

detonation, rather than having less, since the latter implies detonation is occurring. Cooler burning yes since there is less energy released from ethanol than gasoline, but more even burning? Unless detonation occurs I expect how 'even' the burn is between the two is very similar, determined predominantly by how well the mix of air/fuel happens.

On your last point, I don't think it is just exhaust gas energy that is of question, the lower combustion temps will directly impact power production since cylinder pressure results from the temperature rise caused by the fuel burning. The timing 'gain' is one means, along with dumping in more fuel, to try and get the cylinder pressure back up to where (or beyond) it would have been with gasoline.
