The reason a blow off valve throws codes is...

...because the air entering through the airbox is measured, and when it escapes via the BOV instead of being recirculated via a Dump Valve, the vehicle recognises this and correctly logs the problem in the ECU.

Come on guys, BOV's are noisy and impress no-one except for "young" drivers who want to pose...
