Default 160K miles here. Not rebuilt. Bone stock, now Stg3

Get a 20/21 PSI PJ K04 tune from VAST, and and a late onset (15 PSI+) Water/Meth injetion that adds very little, and a set of AWE intercoolers.

I went 440cc injectors. Better mist than 630s, and I can raise FPR if I need more fuel like for GT series turbos (I don't want more power).

My wife did metallurgical work for a while. Microfractures happen, and if you buy someone else's higher mileage motor, you may never see the weak spots, until they become a hole.

keep stock bottom end. Build the top for higher RPM safely (like 8500 ish), and DON'T get RS4 or other cams. You drop low end power when you do that.

If you want racing application focus, ignore everything I said. Do a full rebuild with cams, lifters, springs, rods, overbore, etc, and get GT turbos. and custom plumbing and fuel.

Expect to pay High teens thousands, and break all kinds of ****, while having no power before 4K RPM.

Get a proper, safe tune from VAST, and proper cooling, etc. Build 420 to 480 at the wheels, and have no detonation/misfires. You aren't going to hurt these motors by feeding them peoperly.

Default You are looking at used K04s????

I'm sorry. You clearly can't afford to need new rods, if you are looking at used K04s.

Seriously, man. spend 7K with VAST, get the whole enchilada. Bolt it up yourself. Don't worry. Be happy.

Default I think you're confusing hp and tq. 500hp reliable, sure.

500tq...there aren't many cars over that, and even less that are doing it on stock bottom ends.

Default used K04s maybe to drop in a 997/RS6 wheel?

although I still don't see the need to build a motor for that

Default I've actually already got my tuner and hardware figured out...

and I'm going to need rods for sure for the power I'm going to be putting down. This will be my daily driver (and weekend road-track racer), so I'm going to keep the heads/cams/compression all stock (except possibly port the intake ports on the mani). I just want to beef the bottom end up for reliability. Thanks a ton for your input though!
