Default WOW!! Baptism by snow, ice, and slush! Quattro and Hakka Qs RULE!!! (long)

We're having our first major snow storm of the season. Forecasts are for up to 10-12 inches of snow. Had to drive 60+ miles to dealership this morning for first 6 month check. Heard weather forecast last evening and decided to put on Audi 16" winter wheels with Hakka Qs late last night rather than having dealer put them on (in lieu of tire rotation). Weather got progressively worse as I drove with mixed snow, ice, and slush and rutted road surface. Very treacherous going (in fact, on the way back home, I helped out a van that had slid off the road into a ditch). Had a truck in opposite lane throw a mass of ice and snow onto my windshield so hard I thought it would shatter but everything was OK.

One particular driver in a Chrysler was sliding all over the road and hogging two lanes in passing zone. I waited until he stabilized, then passed in the heavily snow/slush covered and rutted opposite lane. I couldn't believe how Quattro and the Hakka Qs dug in and pulled straight and securely - it was impressive!! Never had a 4 wheel drive vehicle in those kind of conditons feels that "in control". Windshield stayed nice and clear with defroster, rear window defogger worked great, heated seats kept me toasty ... what more could you want?

When I got home, however, the wet snow had packed all the front air intakes solid. I'll have to keep an eye on this. Otherwise, two thumbs up for my S4 with its first winter experience!!!

Default Be careful - four wheel drive is deceptive...

I figure you already know this, but just a heads up to others - most of the cars in ditches during snows here in Colorado are 4WD/AWD vehicles of various types as their drivers feel their cars dig in and pull straight in the snow but then find out too late that their cars can't stop any better than the guy taking up two lanes sliding around in his Chrysler...
