X-post....Coilpack Explosion.....W/ Pics

Supplier Quality Control slipping.....
Happens all the time in the world of engineering....
could be something so simple as one process spec change(and thus a process change) that the supplier (of the coilpacks in this case) changes but doens't tell teh customer (which they are required to do by the way)...or something huge like a line move...which deserves a requalificaiton test IMO....

Yes, they changed the coilpacks around '00.
I've got a '97, never had a problem. Up to '00, the ignition amplifier is a separate part, sits on the airbox of the nDBW. I believe in '00 they integrated the amplifier into each coilpack....that's why the problem is only happening on the newer cars. Two different manufacturers, two different coilpacks essentially.

Re: I believe even the late model B5's were experiencing coilpack issues...
Yes, I have an 2001.5 1.8T, two of coil packs blew at once, the part was on backorder took two weeks to replace two. No fun, my dealer here in NJ does not offer Audi loaner= 2 weeks in Nissan Sentra. Any cases of these blowing in the S4??
